Tomorrow’s Air identifies and carefully selects innovative carbon removal suppliers to receive investment from our collective.
Suppliers are chosen based on how their carbon removal solution aligns with four key principles:
Below, learn in more detail about the suppliers in our portfolio today and why we are confident in supporting them.
1. Climeworks: Climeworks direct air capture carbon removal services are verified by DNV, an independent quality and assurance leader, after a successful audit. The verification methods have passed the due diligence of corporate carbon removal teams working on behalf of Microsoft, British Airways and SwissRe among many others. Climateworks has received a AAA rating from BeZero. As a leading independent carbon ratings agency, BeZero’s assessment, developed by a robust team of climate scientists, geospatial experts, and analysts, reinforces the integrity of the service provided by Climeworks. Tomorrow’s Air was a very early supporter of Climeworks, having promoted direct air capture since our 2018 to our community.
2. Octavia Carbon: Octavia Carbon also delivers carbon removal via direct air capture, through their Kenya-based plant. Octavia, like Climeworks has also achieved a AAA rating from BeZero Carbon. BeZero uses an 8-point scale to evaluate carbon credits on the voluntary carbon market, estimating the likelihood of a given credit to achieve a tonne of carbon dioxide avoided or removed. Beyond helping clean the air of excess carbon dioxide through the sale of carbon credits from the project, Octavia Carbon is located in a region primarily inhabited by the Maasai and Kikuyu communities, and offers an alternative source of livelihood for local people and Kenyan youth.
Octavia’s Community Engagement Strategy further features the co-benefits of its DAC operations. As a travel community that has been involved in tourism development strategies over the years, the Octavia team's strategy hits all the marks.
3. Pacific Biochar: Pacific Biochar receives its third party verification via the European Biochar Certificate. Pacific Biochar’s operations are independently audited, and the company is also supported by discerning corporate purchasers such as Microsoft. Pacific Biochar is listed in CarbonFuture registry.
4. Eion: Eion’s enhanced rock weathering is third party verified, and it has a patented method for tracking the amount of carbon dioxide removed through its process. Eion uses soil samples that farmers regularly take to analyze specific trace elements and micronutrients that are present in the rock. These samples are taken before and after Eion’s silicate rock application, and the difference in trace elements and micronutrients enables the company to quantify the weathering products that dissolved and stored carbon dioxide.
Eion works with the same third party verifiers as Climeworks (DNV) as well as accepted registries: CarbonFuture, Isometric and Puro. These efforts support our confidence that the carbon removal they generate can be monitored following an ISO - compliant methodology within the confines of an ICROA standard.
5. Neste: Neste Sustainable Aviation fuel orders are traceable on the ISCC registry which ensures the credible and traceable transfer of sustainability benefits from sustainable aviation fuel use along the value chain, allowing businesses to report emission reductions. Neste is the leading provider of sustainable aviation fuel and is also supported by well known and reputable brands such United Airlines, DHL and many others.
